Giles blogging today, about one of the best times in my life, when I worked on "Disney's Doug." It was my first job in television, and was produced at Jumbo Pictures in NYC, right on Spring Street and Sixth Avenue. The studio had recently been bought by Disney. I didn't work on an of the Nickelodeon "Doug" episodes, but I worked on 31 of the Disney episodes, and art directed hundreds of bumpers that were produced for the UPN run of the show.

I joined as a lowly Prop Designer, which is harder than it sounds. I took every opportunity to get better at my craft, and was surrounded by folks who may have been younger than me, but were the cream of the crop, many of whom have moved on to Pixar, Blue Sky and other high flying places. I needed to sink or swim, and I think I at least swum.

The best part of the job was that I got to design all of the QUAILMAN and "Man 'O Steel Man" comics, and pretty much any object that was in motion, and that included anything that Doug himself had to draw. I got totally into it and I am glad I saved these model sheets from back in the day.
